outfit ice
As this is the season for giving, my Floating On Whispers blog has been fortunate enough to be given some early Christmas gifts in the form of sponsored posts and product reviews! The first product review of December is sponsored by Griffin Technology. Thanks, Griffin!
Whenever I get a new shiny, fancy electronics product, my first instinct is to immediately get some protection for it. I bought the Invisible Shield and InCase sleeve for my Macbook and a leather case for my Cybershot, and so I frantically searched reviews for iPhone cases as soon as I had that sleek bad boy in my purse. My sister bought me an Otterbox Defender case, so I’ve been primarily using that one.
An iPhone and its cover are just as essential to your style and outfit as a purse or earrings! I’ve been considering getting a slimmer case for a while because the Otterbox Defender is super heavy duty and bulky albeit great in my clumsier moments. I wanted something lighter that could fit more easily in my clutches. I was pleasantly surprised and happy when Griffin Technology sent me an Outfit Ice: Series 2 iPhone 4 case from to review for my iPhone 4. It is compatible for both the iPhone 4 and 4S and retails for $19.99 at the Griffin online store.

Features
- Hard-shell polycarbonate case with soft micro-textured finish
- Snaps on for a slim, secure fit
- Easy access to Multi-Touch display, all ports and controls

Appearance
The packaging was a small box with full view of the back part of the case and a small opening so you can feel its texture. I was given the Curacao version of the Outfit Ice with a frosted, matte finish. It was nice being able to get to touch the soft micro-textured finish without having to fully open up the package.
The Outfit Ice is a really lightweight 2-piece iPhone 4 cover. As you can see in the pictures above, the Curacao shade is this great vibrant and slightly dusty blue color. This case comes in 4 colors: Dark Red, Gun-Metal, Curacao (blue), and Peacock (turquoise). Blue is my absolute most favorite color and the Curacao shade would have been my pick out of the choices. My camera did not quite capture the exact coloring of the phone, but it is somewhere between the stock photo and my pictures. I think it’s colorful enough to make it interesting, but I really liked the soft micro-textured finish to tone the brightness down and also add a nice anti-slip grip to the phone.
Functionality
The Outfit Ice is a 2-piece hard-shell polycarbonate case. It was really lightweight and easy to snap onto my phone. As you can see in the photo below, you just plop your phone into the back side and snap the front on top. It was a little tricky at first to line up the snaps and completely snap it together, but once you do, it fits very snugly and securely.
There are easy-to-access openings for the dock connector, volume buttons, mute button, headphones, power button and camera lens. The Griffin Outfit Ice cover encased my phone well and all the openings for connections were also perfectly aligned and fitted. I had no issues plugging in the power cord and headphones to my phone while in the case. I also did a flash test and the Outfit Ice did not obstruct the lens or flash. My only complaint is the opening for the power/lock button at the top of the phone has a slightly rough edge that makes locking or turning the phone on/off uncomfortable. It is not as much of an issue for the volume buttons, but the top opening is more annoying to touch.

Overall, I like the Outfit Ice: Series 2 case. The matte finish made it soft to touch and had an anti-slip grip. The micro-textured finish prevents smudges better than shinier poly-carbonate phone covers, which is great for my OCD over smudges. Some greasier smudges are harder to wipe off compared to slicker cases but easily comes off with a firm polishing.
The Outfit Ice provides good protection from scratches, dings and dents, but would probably not protect well from hard drops. I’m not willing to test it! haha I would recommend getting a screen protector to supplement this case because it does leave the front screen exposed. I’m really happy that my iPhone has a new, sleeker outfit :) Thank you, Griffin!
**I was sent an iPhone 4 case free of charge for review purposes but I was not compensated in any other way. Please refer to Griffin Technology’s Reviewer Policy and my Disclaimer section for more info on my PR and Disclosure policies.**
