‘Guilty’ mother of dead anorexic model Isabelle Caro commits suicide

The mother of Isabelle Caro, the anorexic French model who died last year, has committed suicide.

Marie Caro, whose daughter made headlines around the world after a picture of her gaunt naked body appeared in a shocking ad campaign, took her own life earlier this month after being consumed with ‘enormous guilt’.

I remember first reading about Isabelle Caro’s death last year and feeling very saddened by the pointlessness and finality of it.  Anorexia had claimed another victim, even after years of bringing awareness to the disease and struggling to overcome it.  Learning about her mother’s suicide following Isabelle’s death from complications of dehydration and her disorder knocked the air out of me.  I’ve struggled for years on body image issues and feelings of depression, and this tragic story is sort of a collision of everything that frightens me. The feelings of guilt and shame in their story really strikes a chord with me.
