sugar and stripes and everything nice

Obligatory apology for the lateness of my post here :P

I was so proud of my cake pop creations, I of course had to do a mini photo shoot complete with peace signs to immortalize them forever!  I saved myself the chimera red velvet/white cake pops for after the birthday party because I knew they’d disappear among the guests before I could have one.  The bf was so lucky that he chomped into it right smack in the middle so I could photograph the cross section displaying both types of cake hehe

This was before a night in with some buddies, and I chose a really easy to pull together but totally fun look.  I’m wearing a striped bodycon skirt, loose fitting, crochet trim top and ankle boots.  Fun, easy, cute and just what I like in a low key outfit.

on taupe of the world

I’ve been meaning to write this post forEVER and am just now finally getting around to blogging about my taupe beauties!  My extremely generous sister gifted me these taupe shoes within the last year and it is l-o-v-e, love!  I was really feeling beiges and tans for winter, but taupe has a lighter touch and is absolutely perfect for spring. The wedge ankle booties are from Aldo and consist of contrasting materials, leather and suede.  They are such a sexy little bootie and look great from all angles, like the front with its pointed toe or the super unique profile with its hidden wedge.  As pictured here, I took these bad boys for a spin with skinny jeans + sweater combo.  They’d also be great with a pair of shorts or a mini dress for the winter to summer transition.

The next pair are an adorable pair of laser-cut flats from Anne Klein.  The laser cut detailing is amazing, and I really like the cap toe and bows!  So much detail for such a little shoe, and yet they’re still very delicate and feminine.  They’d match pretty much any spring or summer outfit — shorts, sun dresses, crop pants, anything.  Do you love my shoe haul from my sister as much as I do?  I always get the best gifts :]

They’re almost too pretty to wear, I barely want to wear them and scuff them up!  They’re both super soft and I sometimes catch myself petting them like a soft little kitty hehe.  And there ya have it - I’ve got my taupe beauties in tow and I’m ready for spring.

fur fringe frenzy

Gap sweater, F21 jeans, faux fur shawl c/o Scarves.Net, Aldo wedge booties, Express & Aldo jewelry

My default chic outfit: fitted sweater, skinnies and cute shoes.  In general, I like to dress simply and spice up with some wOw factor — in this case, the faux fur shawl from Scarves.Net and my Aldo booties do the trick!  I’m wearing some of my favorite pieces here.  I reallllyyy like this beige sweater from Gap.  I really like the fit and color, and especially love the cinching detail around the sleeves and waist.  AND I LOVEEEE my Aldo wedge booties aka Isabel Marant Amely lookalikes x)  They were my Xmas present from my sister and they’re so freaking chic, I can’t even stand it.  Great color, and the mix of leather and suede is SEEEXY.  Definitely not your average wedge bootie.

You know how much I love the faux fur shawl from my previous post about Scarves.Net.  The fur trim and fringe add a lot of fun and texture to an otherwise simple outfit.  My Victoria Faux Fur shawl from Scarves.Net definitely gave the extra depth and detailing and made the outfit as chic as it was.  I wore this outfit to a Sharks hockey game a while back and this shawl kept me cozy and warm in the rink!  I’m all about fashionable and practical :)

Also, don’t forget that tomorrow is the last day to enter my Scarves.Net gift card giveaway!  You can find my product review and details on the giveaway here.

scarf it down

I love scarves.  Always have, always will.  They’re an easy and awesome way of adding color or texture or just extra KAPOW to an outfit.  Scarves are also totally versatile in that they can really dress an outfit up or dress it down with some playfulness.  I’ve regularly worn long, chunky knit scarves during winter and fall, and only am now coming around to wearing thinner scarves throughout the year.  If you’re anything like me, it’s the challenge of learning how to tie them (well) that shies me away from scarves.  But have no fear!  Scarves.Net is here!  It is the most FABULOUS website and online store, and is an amazing resource for us scarf newbs.  Scarves.Net has an actual KNOT LIBRARY, where you can see videos on 40+ ways to tie scarves! UH-MAZ-ING!

That was awesome as is, but of course the awesomeness didn’t end there.  I got to pick out an early bday present for myself from Scarves.Net’s amazing selection!  They have scarves for all seasons and occasions, and they’re all under $40.  Seriously, you can search by season, trend, color, material, and another kajillion features and they probably have exactly what you’re looking for.

Of course I fell in love with the whole store, but alas, I could only pick one.  Too many choices.. what’s a girl to do?  I really liked the three above — the adorable heart print, the tango tangerine shade or the giraffe prints!  I  ultimately chose the Victoria Faux Fur Scarf.  It’s still a bit chilly and grey in NorCal and so I went against my fresh spring mood and retreated back to the comforts of this wintry black scarf.

I just couldn’t resist the fringe or the faux fur.  It actually looks quite a bit different from the stock images.  It’s a soft but thick black fabric, and a lot wider than the image below.  It’s about 6’ long and 2.5’ wide, with dangly fringe on the ends and a luxurious fur trim along its length.  I LOVEEEE THIS SCARF!  You can wear it like a more traditional long scarf by rolling it up or you can wear it unfurled as a shawl over your shoulders.  It’s so different than my other chunky knit scarves and I’m really happy with it.

And now for the fun part!  I’ve had such a wonderful bday, I wanted to share some of the bday cheer with all of you.  Scarves.Net is offering one of my readers a chance to win one of their gorgeous scarves.  They’re giving one lucky winner a $20 gift certificate, and remember, all their scarves are under $40 and I think most are under $20.  My Victoria Faux Fur Scarf is now on sale for a whopping $16.96 if you want some furriness in your wardrobe, too.  Or maybe you’d like to try their square, bandana or winter scarves.  You can have anything your heart desires :)
